Description

Guggenheim curator Maurice Tuchman lectures on Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, one of the founders and key members of the German Expressionist group known as Die Brücke (The Bridge). Explaining how Kirchner came to painting after studying architecture, Tuchman details the artist’s life and work, investigating the impact and success of his paintings over time. He also discusses the difficulties faced by Kirchner, whose works were confiscated by the Nazis, and who committed suicide in 1938. This lecture took place on February 23, 1962.
