Description

Artist and theorist J. W. Burnham discusses trends that emerged in technological art during the 1960s and considers their possible impacts on the future of art. Burnham, who had recently published his first book, "Beyond Modern Sculpture: The Effects of Science and Technology on the Sculpture of This Century" (1968), was a leading mind behind the “systems art” movement. Here, he provides a window into perspectives on technology and art of the time period, mentioning Kenneth Noland and Dennis Oppenheim, among other artists. This lecture took place on January 28, 1969.
