The new Y building replaced a run-down industrial complex at the west edge of downtown Ann Arbor, opening in 2005. Designed by Smith Group, with landscape design by JJR, the building is raised up above a parking area because the site is in a flood plain. The site design incorporates naturalistic wetlands to help manage stormwater.
