This lecture discusses the Stoic philosopher Epictetus' work, the Discourses, and focuses on his concept of the "faculty of choice" (prohairesis) - also translated as "moral purpose" or as the faculty of "will". This concept is absolutely central to Epictetus' Stoic moral theory and psychology, not least because one criterion for moral development and evaluation is keeping one's faculty of choice "in accordance with nature".
