Description

This lecture discusses the 16th century philosopher Rene Descartes' work The Meditations on First Philosophy, and focuses on his first meditation. It examines one of the most famous ideas from that work, the notion of a "evil genius" or "evil demon" (malin genie)who is incredibly powerful, and who devotes all of its resources to deceiving Descartes about the existence of an external world, everything he learns through the senses, and his possession of a body.
