This is a recording of my presentation to the 2019 Aristotle and the Aristotelian Tradition conference, hosted by Marquette University. My presentation examines the role of Thumos and the thumoeides (spirited desire, the irascible part of the soul) in Plato's moral psychology, the important changes that Aristotle makes in his moral psychology, and then the treatments of Thumos not only in later Aristotelian and Platonic traditions, but also in the Epicureans, Stoics, Cicero, and later Christian thinkers who engage the Platonic and Aristotelian traditions.
