It is to Belarus that Swiss label !Organism heads for its next EP, and to the hard techno mind of Gene Karz. On his Highlight EP he serves up two firing original and gets remixed in great style by boss man Yan Stricker and Coeter One.
No stranger to this label, Karz—who makes all styles of techno from main room and anthemic to more subtle and reduced— has released here a number of times before, as well as on Naked Lunch, Driving Forces Recordings and many more.
The brilliantly crafted tittle track opens this EP with stern kick drums and chilly, scattered drum hits. It makes for an unsettling opening before big, industrial chords and rumbling bass join the groove to make it a massive dub monster that will fill any open space with richly metallic sound.
The first remix comes from Luna Club in Kiel regular and Kaputt Music owner Coeter One. He makes things quicker and slicker, with rubbery drums and icy hi hat ringlets making for a more hypnotic and supple cut that is riddled with alien melody.
Then it is Yan Stricker, the man who oversees the fine techno operation that is !Organism, who offers another remix. His is patient and stripped back to a suggestive drum line with frazzled textures and bits of static scurrying over the groove. Clever use of filters tease out key elements and will have dance floors in raptures as a result.
The seriously heavyweight ‘Lowlight’ then rounds out the EP with barring, earth shaking drums and more spacious and atmospheric pads and perc. This is the sort of serene and cavernous techno that gets floors marching as one and is another fine feather in the bow of Karz.
There are few more effective techno labels than this one, and with Gene Karz at the controls once again, you can be assured that this package will get picked up far and wide.
