U.S. Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) detained nine people in Moab on Friday. This action shook the community. Restaurants shuttered their doors Friday night after employees, both documented and undocumented, did not show up for work for fear of being detained. On Saturday afternoon, roughly 50 people gathered at the corner of Main Street and Center Street calling for ICE "to leave Moab alone." Meanwhile, conversations across social media platforms pitted neighbor against neighbor in an ongoing immigration debate. Along with unanswered questions about the nature of the ICE operation, a sense of fear and anxiety remains for Moab's local immigrants.
