Governor Gary Herbert petitioned the U.S. Department of Agriculture last week to relax restrictions on road building for roughly 4.2 million acres of Utah’s National Forests currently protected by a 2001 Roadless Area Conservation Rule. The Governor’s office says the rule is too restrictive when it comes to forest health management in the backcountry. But many environmental groups have raised an alarm, alleging the petition is not about forest health at all, but rather extractive industries. Tune in and learn more.
