Moab City and Grand County recently continued discussions with their respective planning commissions about creating new development standards for overnight accommodations. Both governing bodies have wrestled with this issue for the better part of 2019, pointing to an ‘overwhelming’ feeling in Moab when it comes to hotels and growth in the tourism industry. Standards up for consideration include requiring new OAs produce most of their energy needs on-site, utilize water-wise landscaping, and potentially provide employee housing.
