1984 was actually written on New Years Day, 1984, after hitchhiking home from a New Year celebration.
This is a hard rock song in the key of A.
It was a regular in the set of Wud, who did a very good version of it.
Ken would add some strange vocals from the TV series The Prisoner.
The drum machine was unable to do the six bars of 6/8, so it was turned off and back on again.
