Pluperfect, by Dark Company.
From CD 1, 'SNAFU', of the triple CD album 'A for Acronym'.
PLUPERFECT
Tabletop toyset map of the world
Jigsaw planisphere, edges all curled
Worn out games book, puzzles all done
I looked inside to see what I'd won
I'd won a seat on the train to Strangeville
Or a place on the daily treadmill
I'd won a ticket to a 'no prize' win
Or a packet of bent penny pins
Mandelbrot paint set, infinity waits
Half finished painting of a garden gate
Last year's calender was there on the wall
I checked the dates, was I there at all?
I looked out the window, was I laying low
Or was I waiting for the Late Late Show
I couldn't figure out where I'd gone
But I must have done cos I lingered on
Sinewave eyeballs in a metal made head
Robotic vision that can see through lead
Nostradamus quatrains I could decode
Told me I was going into overload
Told me I'd lived twice every day
That I had to listen to what I'd say
Told me I'd had way too much fun
That I should have walked when I'd run
