So as I'm in my 2nd half of my audio degree and getting into more advanced classes, especially when it comes to mixing and learning what I can do with ProTools, my most recent Digital Audio Class (2) with Adam Fangsrud had no less than 4 mixes due in 3 months. They were intense learning experiences in different genres. The 4th choice could be our own if we had the ability to do that. I had the original instruments from the recording of "No, Father" and as that original recording was rushed and did not produce the results I would have necessarily liked - yet, for a demo I was not completely horrified - I now had the chance to start working on what I WANTED it to sound like.
Long story short, despite a horrible computer crash the day before the project was due, I have been able to go back, add a little production to the recording, return it to its original tempo and clean up the recording errors originally made. I will post the mixes as they are built here in the next few hours as additional layers get added so you can see the progression of the song, but this mix is Rhythm and Piano only.
Items added to the original recording are additional bass drum & snare as well as a Sub Bass to accentuate the bottom of the stereo field. I've also added the footsteps at the beginning, put a delay onto the cymbal to double the time feel of it and heightened the drum presence all together. The next post will include syth and effect layering and possibly the strings added for this project.
