What are your needs? Basics like food, water, shelter, of course – but if you’re like us, then guitar-based rock music with irresistible hooks and huge riffs is right up there with a living wage and the comfort of a family. Enter The Needs – Norway’s new power pop champions.
Formed by guitarist Maciek Ofstad of Norwegian metal-kings Kvelertak and Norway’s self-proclaimed “country prince” and two time Norwegian Grammy winner Bendik Brænne, The Needs come fully equipped with the necessary musical chops. Also on board, and an integral part of the songwriting is Brænne’s older brother and formerly acclaimed scientist Mattis. Keeping it all together, the rhythm section consists of drummer Nils Jørgen Nilsen, who has spent the last 10 years setting stages on fire with Honningbarna and diving for backline in shallow and cold Norwegian waters, and running man Knut-Oscar Nymo of Rakkestad punkers Oslo Ess.
Inspired by beaches, silly dogs, and the boredom that usually arises in-between touring, The Needs have crafted an album full of earworms – resulting in a collection of songs you didn’t know you needed. Oh, but you do.
Blending the summery vibes of Teenage Fanclub with the abandon of The Replacements, the stadium ambition of Cheap Trick and the pop cleverness of Weezer, The Needs come at you all the way from Tøyen – Oslo – Norway, to be your soundtrack for summery days to come.
