Indigenous Business Month runs from the 1st – 31st October and is an initiative of the MURRA Indigenous Master Class Program (MURRA) alumni, to promote the variety and depth of Indigenous businesses nationally and to provide an Indigenous business voice to the national conversation.
The Indigenous Business Month initiative is driven by MURRA alumni who see business as a way of providing positive role models for young Indigenous Australians. As program director Dr Michelle Evans notes,
“We want kids to see that their future lies not just in arts and sport. Business also requires creativity and provides a path to community growth and individual aspirations.”
As government and corporate Australia move towards a target of 3% of procurement from Indigenous businesses, programs such as MURRA and Indigenous Business Month play a significant role in building a thriving Indigenous Business sector, which will assist in reaching such targets.
