In this week's teaching, we get a bit historical as we discuss the expansion of the neo-Assyrian empire in the 8th century and the Syro-Ephraimite War. Don't worry ... there's a reason for this. These events stand in the background of Hosea's prophetic work in chapters 5 and 6. If we don't know what's going on in the world at the time, the import of his message will be lost. So this teaching is part history lesson, part biblical interpretation 101, part "let's see what any of this has to do with us."
