Sam Jupurrurla Wickman was born in Alice Springs in 1952 and is a Wati (fully initiated man) from Central Australia
Sam’s mother was a full ceremonial woman of the Luritja, Pitjantatjarra, Yankuntjatjarra people south of Alice Springs and his father an Arrernte and Luritja man with strong roots to Mpartnwe Alice Springs
Following a 15 year career in the public servic, in Canberra, and then the Northern Territory Sam graduated with honours in Archaeology in 1988.
He is also a former nationally rated (no 4 )Professional Boxer.
