On today’s program:
• Celebrations are continuing in the top end community of Katherine with the Nitmiluk Festival running until the end of the week. Yesterday was the official 30th anniversary of the return of land to the Jawoyn people.
• A formal agreement between the Norther Territory Government and Aboriginal communities to work together to improve justice outcomes has been described as a historical day for Aboriginal Territorians. The launch of the Aboriginal Justice Agreement means that Aboriginal people from around the Territory have been given a voice to the NT Government on how to improve the justice system for their own people.
• And finally we will hear about a group of First Nations women who sang in parliament house in Canberra and have used this opportunity to expressed the need for treaties with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
