"Let what you say be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’…" (Matthew 5:37a) Nick Reed begins a Mother's Day message honoring moms and reminding us the importance of "occupying our street." Today's text from Jesus' Sermon on the Mount is Matthew 5:33-37 regarding the taking of oaths, which is more than purging your vocabulary of swear words, but letting a true change of heart in Christ change how we revere the name of God and live with integrity. Jesus, the perfect example of all He taught and promised, graciously calls us to respect and uphold the presence and holiness of God in our speech, and by our yes meaning yes and our no meaning no, convey that Christians are people who can be trusted.
