Carolyn Harding (host) with Kim Mann and Jonathan Welle, organizers of the Cleveland Solar Cooperative, a multi-racial, multi-class cooperative business that finances solar projects. It allows local residents with as little as $50 make an investment in solar, joining with fellow community members to envision, develop, and own the project. CSC promotes an energy system built, guided, and owned by those who use it.
Kim Mann is a retired air traffic controller, Membership Director of the Cleveland Solar Cooperative, Vice-president of the Fairview Park Democratic Club, and Precinct Leader and Executive Committee Member for the Cuyahoga County Democratic Central Committee. Kim is active in local grassroots resistance and environmental organizations such as Indivisible CLE and West Shore FaCT. She and her husband Jeff aspire to get their 70-year-old home to “net-zero energy” and convert their yard to a permaculture food forest.
Jonathan Welle is the Governance Director of Cleveland Solar Cooperative and is an organizer at Cleveland Owns, a nonprofit that incubates cooperative businesses. He works with groups of neighbors and workers who are using collective ownership of solar finance companies, a food cooperative, and a purchasing cooperative to demand their fair share of prosperity and grow a post-capitalist democratic economy.
