Trading, collecting, storing, weighing, hiding, scattering, planting – it’s the acorn economy of the schoolyard.
Our son brought his treasured acorn collection home from school one year, dropping them all along the path, the street and the muddy, not yet re-concreted driveway at our place. Several persistent saplings took root, and were duly dug up and replanted in a more appropriate spot, saved for a future generation.
This was also the year a little yellow digger actually did get stuck in our drive, much to the delight of passing school children. The Acorns Roll is an echo of these autumn memories of years gone by, and a little reflection on planting seeds of hope across generations in both nature and in families.
