We can’t see the wind, only how it ruffles the world as it passes by - and it’s always been a favourite subject of poets and songwriters, and the stuff of legend around the world.
This wind song tumbled into my head one day after a particularly gusty morning breeze had blown over all the dustbins throughout the neighbourhood again. The tune and first lines of the song started looping in my head and as I went about my day the rest of the verses and lyrics drifted into place.
There is a fascinating relationship between wind, breath, and instruments that use the movement of air. Blowing across the mouth of a bottle, the sound of leaves rustling in the wind, how a human body makes its voice by air passing across our vocal chords - there are so many ways we can experiment with the breath of life, and the science of sound.
