Description

There’s something mystical and magical about snow days, and there are so many different types and forms of snow.
Did you know that snow is mostly air surrounded by a little frozen water? A snowflake forms when water vapour in the upper atmosphere freezes directly into ice in a crystalline hexagon pattern, gathering and growing as it falls. There are at least 35 different basic shapes of snowflake - and every single one is unique based on the conditions they fall through while forming before reaching the ground.
You can try making your own snowflake designs by folding a piece of standard printer paper in half then in half again. Then fold in thirds, cut off the excess and start designing! Carefully snip patterns along the folded edges, then unfold and be amazed by the hexagonal symmetric design you have created!
