In this short story, meet John Chase before the V Plague apocalypse. He is part of the US Army's Delta Force. In Crucifixion: V Plague, Book 2, he mentions a flashback to running through a Central American jungle with Spetsnaz in pursuit. This is that story.
Note that this is a short story and does not need to be listened to in any particular sequence with the V Plague series. All events are prior to the attacks and events that occur in the series, and this will not spoil that timeline.

Only four stars, because of the length. It is essentially a prequel to the Voodoo Plague series. I had read all the series books but couldn't get enough so I purchased and read this one. The series books are around 350 pages on average so I expected this to be a bit longer, my bad. I can't tell you how great this series is but this stand alone short story will prime you for them or give you an enjoyable read even if you don't continue. (Please read the series, you won't regret it!) Dirk Patton is excellent at giving you all the tools you need for a fantastic mental picture during the read. He makes it so interesting that I have purchased and read all 8 John Chase stories within a month's time. Ill let you in on a secret that is probably most people's circumstance. I read the free editions to a series then base my buying on how good it was. If it was meh then I move on. I almost never wait for a book to be released before moving to a different author, I will be waiting on this next book. That's how good it is!
