Levine and Meaney etc counted how many times rat mothers licked their offspring and then placed their offspring in stressful situations and measured how upset they became. The less, or "low-licked" rats had poor stress management skills, rats which were denied all licking died. From these experiments we can derive meaningful, peer reviewed empirical data which suggests that scientists should be kept away from animals at all costs, as they are not right.
