Dublin-based three-piece Crowhammer released their eight-plus-years-in-the-making debut album Vol 1: Tales from Vertexia on New Year's Day 2023. Mixing kraut, prog, stoner, and space rock together, it's a wild concept album that you'll want to play very loudly as you parse the story.
Here's what Crowhammer say of the concept: In a far off galaxy an evil wizard has unleashed a deadly virus on the planet Vertexia. The only hope in developing a cure lies in travelling to the Wizard's home planet in order to take a sample of blood from the mythical space eagle. The Vertexians developed a new spaceship known as the R4D14NT S1LV3RGUN, which is capable of travelling vast distances of space quickly. The Outlander; the hero of our tale, the only person capable of piloting the R4D14NT S1LV3RGUN blasts off into space on their desperate quest to save the denizens of Vertexia.......
I talked to Bobby Corcoran, Ivan Deasy, and Thom Parkes at Guerrilla Sound Studios in mid-January about making the album, why it took so long, looking back on the rock scene of recession-era Ireland, and lots more.
