Clay Bonnyman Evans' grandfather, Marine First Lt. Alexander Bonnyman, Jr. died in Battle of Tarawa in WWII.
Clay Bonnyman Evans is a freelance writer who lives in South Carolina and Colorado.
In his career as a journalist, he wrote for such publications as the Los Angeles Times, Orange County Register and Daily Camera (Boulder, Colo.)
His book, "Bones of My Grandfather," is the story of his grandfather, First Lt. Alexander Bonnyman, Jr., who was killed in the battle of Tarawa on Nov. 22, 1943 and posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.
Since 2010, Evans has been involved with efforts to recover Marine remains from Tarawa with nonprofit History Flight, Inc.
He was present in May 2015 for the discovery and exhumation of his grandfather, who was reinterred in Knoxville,
