Nov 3, 2017: This hit single was a sweet swing and No Myth (she PENNed with a lisp) for Michael in 1989 and a song that charmed the socks off me at first listen. Hearing it recently shuffled up in my big mix of music motivated me to finally consider some new recording after nearly a nine-month hiatus with energies focused on resisT activities.
It occurs to me that NM could serve as a sequel to my "Shanghaied" piece [https://soundcloud.com/kat330/kat330shanghaied], with the narrator now back on shore and solid ground after her torrid fling on the high seas. Another connection I made is Dylan's "I Don't Believe You" [https://soundcloud.com/kat330/i-dont-believe-you], which is also about a parting of the ways, though perhaps more in terms of a one-night stand? There's even his lyric—"It's only to me like some mystery / It could even be like a myth"—to further connect these two songs. I wonder if Penn was influenced at all by IDBY when writing NM.
Our neighborhood has become noisier than ever with households renovating all around us. To keep my sanity when producing a track now, I try to limit mic recording to my vocals. I've found an interior nook big enough only to stand and sing. So my instrument parts here are all electric/tronic, playing my Epiphone SG plugged directly into the laptop for the cha-cha-cha strums and break bits, and my Yamaha keyboard for the drum track, piano, cello, viola and koto parts.
As always thanks for finding me here tucked away on an outer spiral of the SC galaxy. Thanks for your listens and thanks for your support! x♥x♥x♥x Kathleen
