It’s Mother’s Day and we wanted to pay homage to it by sharing this podcast with a lady we truly believe to be both ’superwoman’ and ’supermum’. From the second Lesley Robertson saw the positive result on her pregnancy test, she became a lone parent and her world, which involved running a successful marketing and PR business, was turned upside down. A true fighter, Lesley went on to make a career out of being a lone parent, out of being a single mum. She launched a charity called Families Like Us and created play cafes, aimed at parents to create a support network for them, a place where they could get some breathing space and find out more about resources available to them and all whilst their kids played. If parents using the cafes are on a low income or use food banks, they get services for free through a voucher system to remove any stigma. Building upon that Lesley launched an after school theatre programme for kids to help with their confidence and after her son Kyle was turned away from a football team for not being good enough, Lesley went on to create her own community football team for boys and girls ensuring he would always get to be part of the team. With wellbeing days, arts and crafts, community choirs and more all happening as part of her efforts to support the people and families who need it, Lesley has pulled in £1 million in funding in only 18 months including a funding boost from the JK Rowling Volunt Charitable Trust. She has achieved so much and has done so all to make her son proud. Have a listen to this podcast with this wow woman!
