The fundamental difference between discipline and punishment is life and death. Discipline prepares one for life, whereas punishment leads one to death. Parents discipline their children to one day leave their home in preparation to one day have their own. On the other hand, punishment is to be penalized through confinement. As children of God, we as Christians benefit from God's discipline. He is preparing us for a future with Him. Therefore, any amount of suffering, and or afflictions in this life, results in growth for our eternal life to come. Join us this Sunday for our sermon, "Discipline Over Punishment," from Hebrews 12:4-11, where we'll be encouraged in as much.
