Description

Welcome to the We Dont Mess About Podcast, a mix series devoted to underplayed, overlooked and forgotten gems. This week we hit the turntables to bring you a 30 minute mix of deep, dark and heavy drum and bass classics. Mixed by regular host Sheep, this is a workout session of a mix. Details below.

Tracklist:
1. Fre4knc, MTWN & Mindmapper - Relic [Samurai]
2. Ed Rush & Optical - Lifecrisis (Origin Unknown Remix) [Virus]
3. DJ Optiv & Bulletproof - Camouflage [1210]
4. Dom & Roland - Funk Hunt [Dom and Roland]
5. Noisia, Mayhem & MC Verse - Choke [Vision]
6. Raiden - Fallin [Renegade Hardware]
7. Rawthang ft. Kari - Epilogue VIP [Black Sun Empire]
8. Break - Splash Step [Quarantine]
9. Dkay & Rawfull - Be There 4 U (Concord Dawn Remix) [Freak Recordings]

The first track has forever been eclipsed by the A side, 'Tubular'. Relic also has a unique and heavy hitting blend with tight drums with good low end. It might not be another 'Tubular', but it's still damn good.

Ed Rush & Optical are household names in the drum and bass community, yet it's been a long long time since I've heard anyone drop this 1998 classic. Origin Unknown takes two Ed Rush & Optical tracks and combines them, reworking into a masterpiece.

Camouflage is the kind of tune that can go with almost anything. Bongos, breaks, and a rolling bass. Not much more to say here. Killer!

Funk Hunt is a track I had previously overlooked, but is one of the craziest rollers Dom & Roland have ever made.

I'm sure everyone has heard Noisia's 'Choke' before, but it's been a while since I've heard it. Heavy hitting energy that keeps this mix rolling.

Raiden's classic 'Fallin' embodies all I love about Renegade Hardware. From a bleepy synth to haunting vocals to heavy low end, this track does not disappoint.

Another track that I haven't heard for a while is Rawthang's 'Epilogue VIP'. The drums in this track are absolutely nuts, combined with another haunting vocal and this has earned its place as a classic.

Break is a man that needs no introduction. 'Splash Step' is a roller through and through, without even a breakdown to wind down the energy. Absolutely love the bassline on this. The flip seems to have eclipsed this one in terms of popularity, but despite how good Noisia's 'Diplodocus' is, Splash Step is the tune for me.

I finish up this podcast with an underknown gem I found crate digging. Concord Dawn do a great job remixing this vocal roller by Dkay and Rawfull. Well worth checking out.

That's it for this podcast. Check back in a few weeks for a guest mix from the one Mindscan, who lays down some deep dubstep. I hope you look forward to it. Until then!
