Often during revival, people are prayed for, miracles take place, people get goosebumps and shake, but sadly it does not always translate to personal growth. When revival comes, what was dead comes alive and we grow. The key question with all the revival taking place is - are you growing as a Christian?
2 Corinthians 3:17-18 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
One of the outcomes of experiencing His glory in times of personal revival is that we are transformed. As you look at Jesus, you become like Him to the degree to which you behold Him. You might not be where you want to be, but you are certainly not where you were before. That is transformation. I will ask again – are you growing? One of the gaps in the body of Christ today is a clear theology of growth and personal transformation. Does God have an expectation about your current rate of growth and personal transformation? The answer is, “Yes”. What is your current growth trajectory? Are you becoming more like Jesus or less and less like Him? If you compare yourself today with last year, can the people around you see more of Jesus this year than they did last year? Someone once said that being a Christian is like riding a bicycle, you have to keep moving or else you will fall. Growth doesn’t happen by itself. Many people think they are patient and yielding to God’s process buy unfortunately they are passive and not taking ownership of their learning and growth. If I want to develop as a distance runner and desire to run certain distances at a specific pace, I need to get a training plan from a coach to get me there. It is the same in all aspects of life. Do you have a personal development plan for your Christian growth? Therefore, in this message I will highlight the importance of growth as a fundamental of Christian discipleship. I will then explain different areas in which we are required to grow. Finally, I will take you through some incisive questions that help you to develop a growth plan.
