Last week we began to explore the concept of spiritual warfare in the context of relationships. We highlighted the fact that it is more to do with obedience than pseudo spiritual formulae. We stated that you cannot separate deliverance from discipleship. We went on to discuss the various strategies the enemy uses against us. It is important to note that the Devil has power (Dunamis) but has no real authority (Exousia). His authority is limited to what we allow him to do in our lives because of the legal right we give him through our lifestyle. This is why the Bible instructs us not to give the Devil a foothold. The enemy has been disarmed through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. He uses various strategies and trickery to affect the lives of believers. We mentioned in Part 1 that he will try to intimidate us; he thrives on our ignorance; he attempts to influence us to violate universal laws and he uses the element of surprise. This week we will continue to look at these strategies and how to overcome them.
