listen to presentations by Mostafa Henaway and John Clarke given during a live CKUT radio broadcast at La Passe in downtown Montreal looking at struggles against austerity today within the context of a Liberal federal government in Canada. in this presentation Mostafa highlights the ways that social movements can play an active role in challenging austerity, particularly highlighting the work / perspectives of the Immigrant Workers Centre (IWC). John highlights the work of the Ontario Coalition Against Poverty (OCAP) highlighting the direct actions, campaigns and front-line anti-poverty support work that has driven OCAP for many years.

John Clarke
the Ontario Coalition Against Poverty (OCAP Toronto)

John Clarke first became active in anti poverty struggles when he helped to form the Union of Unemployed Workers in London, Ontario in 1983. In 1989, an ad hoc coalition of organizations challenging poverty worked together on a March Against Poverty that put people on the road in Windsor, Sudbury and Ottawa and culminated in a rally at the Ontario Legislature in Toronto. Out of this, the Ontario Coalition Against Poverty (OCAP) was formed and, in 1990, John moved to Toronto to become an OCAP Organizer. He remains with the organization to this day. http://ocap.ca

Mostafa Henaway
Immigrant Workers Centre (IWC)

Mostafa Henaway is a community activist and organizer, active with the Immigrant Workers Centre (Iwc-Cti) in Côte-des-Neiges, Montreal. Mostafa was also active with the Ontario Coalition Against Poverty (OCAP) while living in Toronto and is also involved in international solidarity, specifically around liberation struggles in Egypt and Palestine working with Tadamon! https://mostafah.wordpress.com
