An innocuous question, such as: what are you doing here? can speed the pulse when it is posed by authorities in airports, in government offices, or in police cruisers. These and other questions may meet us when we cross international borders, and as we traverse political tensions we may be naive to. In the streets anyone can be profiled, detained, searched, and long after these interactions transpire, the questions we are posed echo in our minds and continue to demand answer.
Intérro? is this echo amplified in a cross-disciplinary performance. Intérro? is sourced by questions posed to individuals by state authorities. It expands these questions into a sound work that is poly-vocal and visual. The performance is supported and shaped by electronic sound composition, and overseen by visual images of the language, noise, insinuation, and menace of these interactions.
Intérro? thickens the air with voices, multiplies demand and insinuation, and hovers in uncertainty. Its material criss-crosses the borders between intimacy and formality, authority and familiarity.
