Description

In this episode, Susan speaks with Dr. Given Kachepa, a UNT alumnus and Dallas-based dentist. As a child in Zambia, he was recruited into a boys choir by the leaders of a missionary group who promised him education and a better life in America. Instead, he and the other boys were trafficked right here in Texas, where they performed for audiences who had no idea they were witnessing a form of modern day slavery. Although that operation was eventually shut down, Dr. Kachepa explains to Susan that the practice continues to the present day.

Dr. Kachepa's story was also featured in the Summer 2020 issue of the North Texan: https://northtexan.unt.edu/issues/2020-summer/keeping-faith.
