The Willy Brandt Lecture 2019 was delivered by the Canadian author, journalist and environmental activist Naomi Klein, one of the most renowned public intellectuals of our time. Her book "Why Only a Green New Deal Can Save Our Planet" shows, in view of the unabated destruction of our environment, why the vision of a green future is inevitable. One day before the end of the UN Climate Change Conference 2019 in Madrid, Naomi Klein took stock of the far-reaching measures needed to avert the impending collapse of our climate.
An outstanding personality from politics, science, business or culture is invited to the annual Willy Brandt Lecture. In the spirit of Willy Brandt, they address topics that are of central importance for understanding our history and shaping our present and future.
