Welcome to part 2 in the Dubstep Dedication Series, exploring the music of JAFU. Jafu is the master of chilled out beats. The amount of detail he puts into each song may sound minimal, but it is layered in such a manner that even the slightest tick comes through with such force. The devil is in the details with this kid and it shows. His tribal yet soothing sound can put you in a trance and he softens the impact of the drop by toning down the one beat, on many tracks, and lets the melodies come in on the two. His music may not be fit for DJs to rock a dance floor, but his brilliance shines brighter than some of the most well known producers. Apparently he’s still a teenager, so he was dropping shit like this when he was only 15 or 16. It’s crazy to think that such a young kid can produce such deep and sultry tracks, while most kids his age need to flex their muscle (or lack thereof) with aggressive and agitating sounds. He hasn’t been putting out much lately, but I really hope the weight of this industry doesn’t crush his spirits. We need artists like this to continue to be inspired and supported, because he has the power to change many lives. Out of respect for the artists, these mixes are not downloadable.
