Even though Judas’ betrayal is certainly an atrocity, the epithet/surname needs to help portray Judas’ actions, character, etc., and in my opinion, city man misses the mark.
The next step is to look up Kerioth, the name cited in NT:2469.

Thus, Iscariot basically means “inhabitant of buildings” or “building a city”.

Combined these mean "gather the men". The meeting or bringing together of people or objects by arrangement, accident or purchase.
Judas Iscariot from Kerioth basically means:
