Description

Calling my fellow overthinkers! This episode is for you.

It's really easy to over think things at the gym.

You spend hours watching YouTube videos and doing research in the search of the perfect program.

You're hyper aware of every inch of your body and worry that if you don't have perfect form, you're going to get hurt.

You worry about wasting time or doing the wrong things to the point that you don't take any action at all.

As I see it, overthinking comes from two places.

The first is a lack of context about what's really important. It's tough to be discerning when you're constantly overloading your brain with fitness info from the entire internet.

The second is fear and anxiety. There are so many things that are ultimately beyond our control, and yet our brains try to mull over every possible scenario in a misguided effort to keep us safe.

Instead of constantly thinking about unhelpful things, we need to zoom way out and focus on the few things that really matter.

We need to actually show up and work hard.

We might need to change where we direct our focus within our workouts - for example, shifting from internal to external cues.

And we definitely need to learn how to let go and trust in our own resilience.

Check out the episode if you're a creative person who's prone to overthinking things.

In the episode, I mentioned that hiring a coach can be an awesome option to give you clarity if you're really struggling.
