Description

I spoke with trumpeter Ryan Beach about all things fitness and music.

🎺 Ryan Beach is the Principal Trumpet of the Alabama Symphony Orchestra.

💪🏻 He is also a dedicated powerlifter, boasting a 525lb deadlift, 365lb bench press and 425lb squat.

Ryan and I had a wide-ranging conversation about his personal fitness journey and how it's impacted him as a musician and person.

I really loved hearing his unique perspective and experience, as well as getting into some deeper conversations about how we view our identities as musicians and artists.

Some topics covered include:

✅Why Ryan realized he needed to pay more attention to fitness and nutrition
✅How he fell in love with heavy lifting
✅How fitness helped Ryan work through a tough time in his professional career
✅The system for music practice he's created based on principles of strength training programming
✅How strength training can help musicians become more resilient
✅How Ryan makes time for exercise despite being a busy professional musician, husband and father
✅The role of coaching and how best to use it
✅How to stop over-identifying with your professional success and create a healthy, well-rounded identity away from music.
