Hello Sweet friends,
I'm so excited you are here today, spending your precious time with me!
Today's podcast I will be talking about this vast topic that we all face at in our lives. Emotional Eating.
What's Emotional eating anyways?
By Definition:
Emotional eating includes eating in response to any emotion, whether that be positive or negative. Most frequently, people refer to emotional eating as "eating to cope with negative emotions."
As we can see, we are all emotional eaters, and we eat for pleasure, for nourishment, when we are stressed, when we are happy or sad, and that's is completely fine.
Emotional Eating has different spectrums and you might encounter yourself in one or another time-to-time. The only time that can become harmful for your mental and physical health is when emotional eating is used as a form of numbing or avoiding our feelings. In these cases, it is highly recommended to seek professional help to work through some of the root causes of eating behavior.
Spectrums of emotional eating:
No negative side effect in your life: It's when you eat when you are happy or sad, but it doesn't ruin your day. You eat the piece of cake, and you are ok with that and you just move with your day.
Eating for comfort: You eat when you have a stressful situation, but after you eat you move on with your life and don't let it affect your day
You are eating for distraction: When you are eating because you are avoiding a conflicting or uncomfortable situation.
Eating for sedation: When you start using food as a way to cope with your emotions, and becomes a daily habit that can lead to binge eating and negative affects in your mental health and emotional health.
Eating for punishment: That's when you eat to punish yourself for not being "perfect," "good enough," etc.
