Anthony retired from football at the age of 23 in the mid-1990s. He had a professional career in miniature where he starred as an apprentice at Spurs, winning the 1990 FA Youth Cup before stepping up to the reserved to be coached by Ray Clemence.
In his memoir Losing My Spurs: Gazza, The Grief and the Glory, he gives one of the best accounts of being a young footballer working at a top club. Full of anecdotes, it’s an early contender for the best football book of 2022.
