John Rudge has finally delivered his brilliant life story. To Cap It All was written with Simon Lowe, who finished off the original text co-written by Chris Harper.
The book had been planned to come out in the late 1990s, when John had been manager of Port Vale for over 15 years, but when he became Director of Football at Stoke City, it was pushed back and only completed in advance of John's 80th birthday in 2024, which will see the unveiling of a statue of the becapped one at Vale Park.
John was born in Wolverhampton and his life in football began at Huddersfield Town. He moved up to Carlisle, down to Torquay and Bournemouth and west to Bristol Rovers, but has settled in the heart of England with his family, who are a mix of Valiants and Potters.
