A journalist who began work in the era of copy-takers and men who laboured on printing presses, Jon wrote the first posthumous biography of Stanley Matthews, The Wizard.
His recent book, discussed in the second half, is When Footballers Were Skint, which chronicles the English game in the middle of the twentieth century, when the maximum wage was broken by player power. He has just written a script for a film called The Atomic Boys, for which he hopes to find a producer.
