Aston Villa fan Neil has covered Portsmouth FC for 20 years, during which time the club have played in both the Europa League and League Two. After the Eisner family purchased the club from Pompey fans who had paid £1000 per share, Kenny Jackett has led the side to consecutive play-off defeats in League One.
His four books on the club include two which came out in 2020, one of which documents the interrupted 2019/20 season, subtitled The Island City with a Football Club for a Heart.
