Brighton fan Spencer hit upon a story when he was talking to record-equalling goalkeeper Eric Gill. Eric told him that he was playing bowls with Dave Hollins, who had also played for Brighton in the 1960s, and Spencer couldn’t believe his luck.
He has told the story of Eric and Dave in his new book, which takes readers back to the days of retain and transfer. It is a fine addition to goalkeeping literature.
