The lockdown we have endured for 61 days was implemented to flatten the curve — slow down the rate of Covid-19 infections so that the healthcare services could prepare for the inevitable spike in infections once community transmission takes off. The evidence suggests this has been, to some extent, successful, but the consequent economic fallout has left many people facing starvation.
