In a deck of Tarot cards, the Falling Tower card often signifies drastic change. It depicts the falling of a tower to make way for the new. This is symbolic of the need for one thing to go, before another can take its place. Often this transition from old to new is an uncomfortable one and many are justifiably fearful of it.
Shiva, the Hindu god of destruction is often met with similar apprehension. He is the destroyer after all. But he destroys to make way for the new. He tears down what was not working to make way for better.
Both the tower and Shiva represent the need to go through the uncomfortable process of uncertainty and loss in order to create a new and better way.
