Breakthrough of Greater Philadelphia and WURD Radio presented the Educational Equity Summit on Saturday, October 25 at Germantown Friends School. Moderator Dr. James Peterson guided an important conversation on diversity, equity, and innovation in education.
The panel featured some of the region’s most dynamic leaders: Councilmember Isaiah Thomas, chair of City Council’s Education Committee, on how policy shapes opportunity; Dr. Khalid Mumin, superintendent of Reading School District and former Pennsylvania Secretary of Education, offering state and local insights; Cara McClellan, director of Penn Law’s Advocacy for Racial and Civil Justice Clinic, connecting equity to legal reform; Michelle Palmer, executive director of Breakthrough, with a grassroots perspective on change; Ansharaye Hines of the Center for Black Educator Development, on why representation in the classroom matters; Dawn Chavous, longtime educational advocate and consultant, sharing community-driven solutions; and Dr. Stephen Brady, former deputy chief of K-8 instruction in Philadelphia, bringing decades of leadership experience.
